FC Barcelona player is unhappy with his game time

Barcelona

FC Barcelona forward Memphis Depay expressed his frustration with the lack of game time he has enjoyed in the current season. The Dutch International has only made three appearances. The Dutchman finished the previous campaign tied for the team’s leading scorer with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. His involvement in the club dipped with his injuries and Xavi’s arrival in Barcelona.

The player appeared for an ESPN interview during his international break with the Dutch national team. He expressed his desire to play more.

“Of course, you need rhythm, but I’m fit. I do train more and harder because I play less, but the match rhythm is better. Fortunately, I had a starting spot in La Liga the last few weeks, but it’s not enough.”

“The last game went well. I was replaced after an hour, and I longed for more. In the last 25 to 30 minutes, there is often more space, and I can take advantage of that with my game. I think I still have the power; it won’t just go away. I’ve had good preparation, I’m fit, no injuries. I’m feeling good.”

“I just haven’t played much in recent weeks, not what I’m used to.”

“Then it feels familiar to come back here because I know I’m going to play here. That is why I am extra grateful, happy and motivated that I can be important here again.”

All three of Memphis’ appearances have taken place in September. He started against Cadiz and Elche in La Liga and came off the bench in Viktoria Plzen’s victory in the Champions League. The Dutchman made an impression against Elche in his previous outing, scoring in the 3-0 win at Camp Nou.

But given the abundance of attacking alternatives Xavi has this season, he faces fierce competition for a starting position. Yet Xavi is happy with Memphis’ involvement in the squad. Memphis will have several opportunities to play as a hectic October schedule approaches FC Barcelona.
