FC Barcelona has set the ground running with their performances in the new season. Six games into the La Liga campaign, the club has yet to lose a single match. It sits in the second position right behind Real Madrid with five wins and a draw. The performances have been excellent, and the stats back it up. The club has the best defensive record in Europe, with just one goal conceded against 18 scored.
Albeit a disheartening loss against Bayern Munich, the performance from the whole team proved that it is only a few steps short of competing with the European elites.
FC Barcelona most suitable for the playing eleven
With the international break coming to an end, let’s see the best eleven that Xavi can call upon.
Ter Stegen is the undisputable starter in the goal. However, in Inaki Pena, Barcelona does have a formidable option to look for. He will get his chances in the Copa Del Rey. For the League and the Champions League, Ter Stegen is the absolute priority. His performances have replicated his best form in the last couple of seasons.
In the backline, Barcelona has the luxury of choosing from various profiles. Something that was lost until the previous season. On a typical day, Araujo and Eric Garcia/Christensen is the best pairing. Kounde will have to fill the right-back position at times. Why? Xavi prefers an inverted right-back, who can provide numerical superiority in the build-up phase. Bellerin still has his chances of starting. In the left-back position, Xavi has trusted Balde, and rightfully so. Balde has the quality to dribble with pace, while Alba and Alonso don’t. Alba has fallen out of favor. Alonso would still be an essential utility player for the club.
In the middle of the park, Busquets is the rightful owner of the Defensive midfield position. An interior pairing of De Jong and Pedri is the most effective. However, Gavi has proven that he can co-exist with Pedri. Kessie and De Jong would then be important options to look for.
Barcelona has a rich arsenal of offensive players at its disposal. The starting three would be Lewandowski, Dembele, and Raphinha. However, both Dembele and Raphinha have similar profiles. This is why a profile of Ansu Fati and Ferran would make sense to start. Lewandowski requires runners to support his runs and also for an extra option to play a pass. FAti and Ferran can play this part very well because of their excellent ability to find and make space and off-the-ball movements. Depay would be the go-to option when letting others rest.
This is the best way Barcelona can line up to take full advantage of the players’ abilities.
