FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando questions the quality of referees in ISL

Football Express

The FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando seemed to be disappointed with referees after his team conceded a late injury-time penalty to Adam le Fondre.

Ferrando praised his players for their industrious and spirited display in a 0-1 defeat against Mumbai City FC.

It is difficult to know what happened. The real situation is that team worked a lot. We lost the game in the end. Our focus is now on the next game.

When asked to comment on referee decision Ferrando bemoaned and questioned the level of refereeing in the Indian Super League.

I prefer not to speak about referees because everyone knows what is the level (of referees) here is.

Ferrando explained how it was necessary for them to revert back to Plan B after they were down to 10 men and how his team fought for three-point and will continue to do so.

It is difficult to play against a good team (with 10 men). Before the red card, it was a beautiful game with two teams trying to play football. After the red, it was necessary to go to plan ‘B’. The plan ‘B’ was good for a bit. It is difficult to talk about stats today. With 10 players it is difficult to play.

It is not good. Our mentality is to win three points all the time. The most important thing is to continue working.

Personally, I think FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando was a bit harsh on the referee here as Tlang’s boot cleats were on Santana’s knee on any other it could have crushed the knee. As for handball, a handball is always a handball unless you say it’s unintentional.

Anyways FC Goa did put up an inspiring and attack-minded performance almost scraped a deserving point and have the better half of chances.

The fact that Brandon Fernandes and Ishan Pandita have not featured yet tells us that it would take time for the head coach to gel things up with this new replenished squad full of youngsters and to find his best eleven.

FC Goa is yet to find a win in ISL this season, in the opening match they secured one point against league giants Bengaluru FC. Now they sit at the 7th position in the league table with just 1 point from 2 fixtures.

ISL started a week ago with all matches being played at Goa state only due to Covid-19 pandemic.
