FC Goa vs AL Wahda: Match preview, AFC Champions League


Indian Super League side FC Goa will play against Dubai-based club Al Wahda on the second matchday of the AFC Champions League. The match will kick off today at 8 pm at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium Fatorda, Goa.

FC Goa made a good impression of themselves by drawing against Al Rayyan in the opening game of ACL. But, it only gets more difficult from here. The Gaurs performed exceptionally well against the Qatari side. But, questions have raised about the attack and the lack of their attacking intent.

The Arabian club are currently 8th in their domestic league. They have also lost their first match against Persepolis FC so, Al Wahda would be desperate to snatch three points against FC Goa.

Goa would definitely play with soaring confidence against Al Wahda after the draw against Qatari giants Al Rayyan. The Gaurs will go as the underdogs against the much-fancied side Al Wahda. Goa are also on an unbeaten run of 16 games, they have not lost a single fixture after losing to Chennaiyin FC in the ISL. So. things are definitely looking good for FC Goa.

Al Wahda, on the other hand, are known for their physical game and their head coach Henk Ten Cate have been associated with European giants like Ajax, Barcelona, and Manchester United. However, Al Wahda have had a mixed campaign so far with being 8th in the domestic league. Losing their first match against Persepolis FC. Goa have a good chance of grabbing 3 points agaist them but it surely isn’t going to be easy for them.

Ferrando will not do many changes in the team because of their performance against Al Rayyan. Especially in the defensive line which performed exceptionally well n their last fixture. But, he might sharpen the attack a little and go with Mugaonkar the Goan forward instead of Jesuraj. However, Jesuraj has given a decent performance in their last match.

Henk ten Cate is also not supposed to make any changes after having a narrow defeat against Persepolis FC. Going with their usual (4-3-2-1). Goa would have to watch out for players like Omar Khirbin who have scored 6 goals in 8 appearances, Ismail Matar who have the most assists for Al Wahda and finally their ace striker Tim Matavz who has been the top scorer for the team with 9 goals in 23 matches so far.
