Chelsea had another great transfer window with many new faces joining them. The club also sold many of the existing stars. However, they were unable to sell Ben Chilwell. The 27 year old fullback is the second highest paid player in the current squad. Turkish club Fenerbahce want to sign Chilwell this summer and Chelsea are said to go on with the deal.
Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea in 2020 from Leicester City. He won the UEFA Champions League in his first season with The Blues. However, he has been injury prone since the 2021/22 season. Chilwell has only started 30 Premier League fixtures since the start of his second season at West London.
Chelsea were interested to part ways before the deadline day. Enzo Maresca has already said that Chilwell is not in his plans. Manchester United and Brentford were linked with Chilwell at some point in the transfer market. However, it was never concrete.
Chelsea star linked with a move to Fenerbahce
The good news for Chelsea is that the transfer market is open until 18th September in Turkey. As per TEAMtalk, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign Ben Chilwell. Chelsea are now said to let Chilwell join the Turkish side on loan. This move will be in the best interest of all three parties.
Chilwell is the second highest earner at Chelsea. He earns £200,000 per week. Only Reece James who is club captain earns more than him. In addition, Chilwell has contract with Chelsea until 2027. However, Fenerbahce will not be able to pay Chilwell as much as Chelsea.
Chelsea will not want to pay this much salary to a player who is not even part of the squad. Hence, they could be seen to pay some percentage of Chilwell’s salary of he joins Fenerbahce. Joining the Turkish club will also be in the good interest of Chilwell. He is 27 years old and will not like to miss football until January.
