Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic has rejected the contract extension with the club whose current deal will expire in June 2023.
The Serbian burst into the spotlight last season after enjoying a stellar campaign with La Viola, scoring 21 goals and notching up three assists in 37 league appearances. Following an impressive campaign, Tottenham Hotspur was eager to sign the 21-year-old but a deal never materialised.
According to club owner Rocco Commisso, La Viola made a big contract proposal to the Serbian international that would have made the forward the best-paid player of the club’s history. However, Dusan Vlahovic and his representative have turned down the offer and decided not to sign a contract extension with Fiorentina. Cammisso said:
“I would therefore like to update the Fiorentina fans on an issue that has been much talked and spoken about in recent months – the question of Dusan Vlahovic’s contract. As you know, Fiorentina made a very significant offer to the player. Our proposal would have made him the highest-paid player in the history of the club.
“We also improved our offer on several occasions in order to accommodate the requests of both Dusan and his entourage. However, despite our efforts, those offers have not been accepted. During my time in Florence over the past few weeks. I have personally endeavoured to find a solution that would make both the player and the club happy. But I am disappointed to say that our efforts and attempts have not been rewarded.
“At this point, all that we can do is acknowledge the wishes of the player and his entourage and quickly identify feasible, appropriate solutions as we proceed with this exciting new season. In any case, Dusan Vlahovic has a contract linking him to Fiorentina for the next 21 months.”
Dusan Vlahovic could leave Fiorentina next summer:
With Vlahovic open to leaving Fiorentina next summer, there will be a great battle to sign the Serbian next summer. Juventus are reportedly looking to sign the 24-years-old and Manchester City is also eyeing a new centre-forward.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland will also be in the market next summer. It could be an open race to sign two of the world’s best young strikers in the world. So, it will be interesting to see who will manage to sign these two youngsters next summer.
