Players Newcastle United Could Target This January Transfer Window

Football Express

So, here we are just a few days off the new year. Newcastle United has a tough round of fixtures ahead:- Manchester City, Liverpool, and Leicester all in the space of 8 days.

So, there’s every possibility that Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce might dip into the transfer market under the gun to buy some Bosmans and player to fill big holes in his squad.

Although it’s the manager who needs to be replaced some might argue but just tell me if we offer one of our squad players to any decent premier League like the likes of Southampton or Aston Villa they would take our players in a heartbeat.

But this is not the conversation we are here for. First and foremost we have to identify our problems. So, we play 5-4-1/5-3-2 against good teams (top six and Southampton, Everton, Leicester, Brighton, etc..) and 4-4-2 attacking against teams in and around us (like:-Newcastle under 9’s and West Brom).

We tend to be a counter-attacking team but don’t have a coach to train that system but still if we have a decent set of players we can execute the plan. (That is shown by the stat we only have 1 goal on the counter).

Areas of need for Newcastle: Centre-Midfield, Left-back

In most counter-attacking systems there’s a high pressing Defensive Box to box midfielder who can recover possession as well as carry the ball forwards. Currently, no player on our Team roster does this work that’s we lack that urgency on counters to open teams up to feed the ball to Wilson.

We have Shelvey who a baller on his day but needs a defensive workhorse alongside him like N’Golo Kanté. Issac Hayden tends to be that hard tackler but offers next to nothing going forward owing to his limitations on the ball. Sean Longstaff has Faded away this season(never seemed settled since Manchester United rumors). Matty is too young and needs to go out on loan. Jeff Hendrick either hasn’t shown something to suggest he’s that player.

On left-back position, Jamal Lewis is also very unconvincing good going forward(but can’t take shots on goal) but very often disappoints on the defensive side of the game. Often loses concentration and gives away cheap goals. So, a left-back might be needed.

Transfers Newcastle United can target:

1. Granit Xhaka (Arsenal) CMF- €25 million

Arsenal are under a crisis this transfer might seem too ambitious but Newcastle have previously linked with the player in January his fellow countrymen Fabian Schar tried to persuade him but the Swizz midfielder decided to stay and fight for his position.

Although he struck a worldie the other night against Chelsea the North Londoners might be willing to part ways with Swiss International because they already acquired Partey and might be buying creativity come January in Houssem Aaour and Eriksen. So, he might not be needed.

The player is very good on the ball 90% pass rate and completing about 5 long balls a game, defensively sound as well(2.5 tackles and interceptions).

A mix of both Issac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey. Also, very box to box type and set-piece specialist.

2. Boubakary Soumaré(Lille) DMF- €20 million

As we all know the French Football market is in a crisis after a 1.2 billion TV deal has collapsed the french clubs(other than PSG) might be in Financial Trouble. So, teams will be tempted to sell valuable assets for cheap. Newcastle has earlier exploited the french market heavily unearthed gems like- Moussa Sissoko, Yohan Cabaye, and Hatem Ben Arfa. So, a french revolution may be on the horizon if things don’t go Newcastle’s way in the coming weeks.

Boubakary Soumare is an interesting pick of the bunch the player is not a workhorse but very good at carrying the ball forward with dribbles very much like our very own Moussa Sissoko. The 19-year-old is highly rated in France and has shades of Paul Pogba.

Newcastle has made a bid in the region of €35 million but reports are a bid in the region of €20-23 million would be enough to Persuade Lille to let the wonderkid away. But he is very inconsistent as you can think of his age.

3. Harry Winks(Tottenham) CMF- Loan

The 24-year-old is the latest victim of Jose Mourinho’s young player curse. He is an England International who needs to play regularly to have any chance of making the Euro squad. Newcastle can be the ideal destination for him a mid-table club not involved in a dog-eat-dog relegation fight.

He is a very good attacking midfielder who often occupies wing positions nearby the penalty box. A dream acquisition for Newcastle if possible either on Loan or permanent. Winks cannot play a DM position but can easily fit in RMF in 4-4-2 formation easily.

4.John Lundstram(Sheffield United)DM- free

John Lundstram was one of the Key reasons why Sheffield United have punched above their weight last season. The 26-year-old has reportedly rejected a new contract at Bramall Lane.

Last season has been an utter revelation for Lundstram he scored 5 goals while assisted 3 from the midfield taking massive 1.3 shots per game from midfield. He has a bite about him and makes deep late runs into the box. Might be a solid addition to the midfield.

The 7.05 miliion rated midfielder is contracted to Sheffield United till June 2021 which means he’s free to talk to any club for a pre-contract in January. That means Magpies can pick him either on a Low Transfer fee or for free if the Pre-contract agreement is agreed.

5.Jetro Willems(Eintract Frankfurt) LB – free

A no-brainer really it would be a homecoming for Willems. Proved himself in Premier League( 2 goals,2 assists in 15 apps for Newcastle United) has a powerful shot, Good at holding the ball up and trickster has a decent partnership with Allan Saint-Maximin. Most importantly he’s a true magpie who can give everything for the Black and White.

Newcastle United are currently 12th in English Premier League Table and will face mighty Liverpool on New year’s eve.
