Fofana opens up about the shock summer window proposal

Chelsea are back in the headlines again amidst the ownership issue. Ever since the departure of Roman Abramovich Chelsea have been total mess. Whether in case of spending huge amount of money on the signing of loads of players. Or changing managers season by season.

However, new manager Enzo Maresca is being backed by the ownership as they want to change the clubs current situation. Historically the Blues are always amongst chaos but they always managed to dominate in the Europe. The last two weeks have been more of a headache for the fans and the manager.

The Italian would love to set aside all the dramas and hope for a successful outing to Bournemouth. Maresca will be hoping for all the controversies to end so that the players can focus on the field. But it seems like dramas will never get rid of the Chelsea squad.

In between the ongoing international break another shocking news came in the light regarding a Chelsea player. The 23 year old French international Wesley Fofana have spoken about a proposal that was presented to him.

Wesley’s statement

The 23 year old defender has started the season on a high note under the Maresca. He has started in all the Premier League fixtures until now. The Frenchman started his journey at the youth level at Saint-Ettiene. His excellent performances impressed all the clubs around the globe. Wesley earned a move to Leicester city in 2020 at the age of 19. He played all the minutes in his debut match against Aston Villa.

Two years later, after making his name as a reliable defender in the world football, he left the Foxes to join the Blues. Chelsea spent around £70m to sign Wesley in the summer transfer window of 2022. He joined on a 7 year long deal.

However, in a recent conference with French outlet Free Foot, Wesley has admitted that he held talks with his hometown club Marseille this summer. He told that he had a phone call that really touched his heart to consider the deal. Wesley mentioned, the phone call was from Mehdi Benatia, Olympique Marseille‘s sporting director.

While asked about more details he replied, “At the moment, my objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and win games, to establish myself at my club.”

But Wesley never denied his desire to play for his boyhood club. He used the words, “After that, Marseille, we’ll see one day.” Further he added,

“I still have a contract until 2029. We’ll see after that. I’ve never hidden anything. It’s my city, it’s my club, I’m a Marseille supporter. If it turns out to be the case, in a few years I’ll be at Marseille and if it turns out to be the case, I could spend my entire career at Chelsea. So we’ll see.”

Wesley has always had an expressive and fearless personality. He straight up says about the situation without even thinking twice about the conclusion. However, these quotes may seem like a headache for the fans and management but it was said with a smile on his face. Though no one knows what happens in the future but as of now Wesley is a Chelsea player and he will try to give his best for the club.

A lot is going on in the Chelsea camp amidst the international break. After the failed move of David Datro Fofana to AEK Athens the player is set to join Turkish side Goztepe SK on a season long deal. It also includes a recall clause in January.

Squad player Romeo Lavia has suffered from a hamstring injury , that is why he missed the last couple of fixtures in the Premier League. However, it is not a major concern as he will be back soon at the Stamford Bridge. Even captain Reece James is recovering well and taking his time to come out on the pitch. As per reports the fans would see the captain back on pitch within 3-4 weeks.

Ben Chilwell also started training with the first team squad this week. Maresca exiled the defender from his squad as he was out of the Italian’s plan for the season. But in a recent training clip of the Blues, the 27 year old was captured warming up. The Englishman was not keen on a move to Turkey, so he is still at the the Cobham academy. Reports say Maresca can include him in the 25-man Premier League squad for the season.

As per the reports of The Standard Cole Palmer has been suffering from muscle fatigue and that is why manager Maresca left him out of the UECL squad to manage the workload. He even withdrew his name from the Three Lions squad list for the Nations League break. Defender Malo Gusto and new signing goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is also out due to injury. Chelsea fans will be hoping for their quick recovery as a long season awaits ahead of the Blues.
