Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy is glad that the deal for Victor Osimhen failed. The Blues were very close to sign the Napoli striker this summer.
Chelsea entered this year’s summer market with a plan to sign a striker. Victor Osimhen appeared as their top target. The Nigerian striker had a fall-out with Napoli and hence was looking for a new club.
Chelsea tried really hard to sign Victor Osimhen. They were linked until the last hour of the deadline day. But, the Blues were unable to agree on transfer fee which resulted in Osimhen staying at Napoli.
The Italian side had already signed Romelu Lukaku and so there was no space for Osimhen. Osimhen then joined Galatasaray on loan but Chelsea are still keen to sign him. However one former Chelsea star has revealed that he is glad the deal failed this summer.
Jason Cundy says he’s glad that Osimhen deal failed this summer
Jason Cundy has made some bold statements about the failed move. He justified why he feels this way and what would have happened if Osimhen deal would have worked out.
“I’m glad we didn’t get Osimhen in the summer, because if we did, we wouldn’t be seeing the numbers of Jackson is putting up” – Cundy speaking to talkSPORT.
Later, Cundy said that Chelsea need a backup for Jackson right now. He added that Nkunku is not a backup and that is the problem at the squad. But, he had another view about this situation too.
Cundy said that Jackson is very young and you can’t back someone who is that young. He added that if Chelsea still need to sign striker it is to replace Jackson not to back him up.
The Blues are still keen to sign Osimhen. It is clear that the Nigerian will directly replace Jackson despite the top form shown by him in Premier League this season. Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Isak, Delap and Gyokeres.
