Former AC Milan goalkeeping coach and deputy coach Pietro Carmignani has expressed his thoughts on the current Rossoneri team

Stefano Pioli’s side are currently battling to qualify for the UEFA Champions League which seemed almost certain. But, bad performances from the young team have caused them a problem in this crucial part of the season.

Carmignani has played for Como, Varese, Juventus, Napoli, Fiorentina and Rhodense during his playing career as a goalkeeper from 1964 to 1980. The 76-years-old former goalkeeper also managed Parma, Milan, Atletico Madrid, Livorno, Varese, and Italian National team at different times and in different roles.

The goalkeeper won a Serie A title in 1971-1972 for Juventus and won Coppa Italia with Napoli in 1976 during his playing days. He has won a Coppa Italia as a Parma manager in the 2001-2002 season.

Carmignani expressed his insight on Milan:

Carmignani served as a goalkeeper coach of Milan from 1989-1993 and in his second innings with the Rossoneri, he came as an assistant coach of Arrigo Sacchi.

“I think he did an excellent job, then many players were injured. I am on the side of those who propose Pioli for next year too. We cannot forget all the good things that have been done.” – Pietro Carmignani on Stefano Pioli.

“From a technical point of view he is an exceptional goalkeeper, one of the best in the world. I think I read it between the lines, I hear the declarations and from these transpires Donnarumma’s desire to stay. I’m not inside the environment, but I seem to sense that he would be happy to stay.” – Carmignani on Donnarumma.

Milan has been struggling in the last nine years at the highest level of football. They haven’t been able to qualify for the Champions League in over a decade and they last won the Scudetto in 2011 under Massimiliano Allegri.

It will hurt the Rossoneri big-time that their city rival go ahead in terms of winning the Scudetto. Milan have won 18 Serie A titles and Inter Milan now won their 19th title.
