Former Liverpool star states Raheem Sterling as Flop of the season

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore reckons Arsenal winger Raheem Sterling is a flop of the season so far this season. Arsenal is struggling in the Premier League. Nine points off the pace in fourth, they sit behind leaders Liverpool. Is Raheem Sterling the flop of the season maybe not.

Arsenal is four points adrift in second, but Manchester City is just behind in third. They’ve only won once in their last four league games, and being that they are chasing the title, they have left themselves wounded.

New players on the team haven’t done what was expected. Only two league games this season are that Raheem Sterling, who joined from Chelsea, has started. Former striker Stan Collymore has said Sterling is one of the disappointments of the season. Big promises when Sterling arrived at Arsenal. Fans of Arsenal hoped he would bring that winning experience of Manchester City. He’s not living up to expectations yet, but so far.

Riccardo Calafiori, another new player, signed for Arsenal for £42m. He’s struggled with injury and hasn’t made the splash the fan base desired. They also sold Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham. Making this decision may have been wrong. Smith Rowe is faring well at Fulham and Arsenal could do with him now with Martin Ødegaard laid low.

Fans and experts are also worried about Arsenal’s bigger picture form. Over the past few years manager Mikel Arteta has put together a very good team but they have struggled to keep up with the rest. Last season, they were scoring a lot of goals. We aren’t now.

Arsenal needs to find a solution quickly these days. With the January transfer window, possibly an opportunity to bring in some new players. In place of their fire power up front, and perhaps some new thinking in midfield.

Raheem Sterling did not get the gametime

Experts think Arsenal should be looking for an experienced striker, one who will score regularly. Nothing this Arsenal side has done would indicate that the next few months will be anything but crucial. But they still have important upcoming games against the likes of top teams. These matches could add them back into the title race. They have additional pressure on their schedule, with Champions League games to think about.

They remember when Arsenal led in the mind of the league at numerous points of time preceding a period when Manchester City commenced to take the lead. The expectations were so high, so it feels harder this season’s struggles. Supporters were hoping the team spent a lot of money on new players in the summer and that would finally bring them their first league title since 2004.

Things have become a little bit harder without team captain Martin Ødegaard. It’s hard to replace his creativity in midfield. There needs to be other players taking more responsibility. Like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli show talent as young players, they need more support from their teammates.

According to recent training sessions, Arteta is resetting the problems. He is experimenting with new tactics and team make-ups. Games in the Premier League can be won by small margins and the coach just knows that small improvements can make all the difference.

Arsenal must win

The latest news from the Emirates Stadium suggests that Arsenal isn’t giving up. The goal is to see better results. Players are spending extra time training, and the coaching staff is reviewing game plans. Everyone at the club knows that if they are going to stay in the race for major trophies this season, they have to turn things around very soon.
