Tottenham Hotspur is considered to be in the prime position to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie. The 24-year-old has a contract with the club till 2022 and is not signing an extension.
Reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato says that the player is demanding higher wages to renew his contract. However, AC Milan are not ready to meet the demands Kessie and could be willing to sell him in January. Tottenham is ready to spend big and the report suggests the club and player already agreed on personal terms.
Ever since the arrival of the new Director of Football Fabio Paratici, Tottenham has been looking to Serie A for their transfers. But they will face stiff competition as PSG is also reported to be interested in Kessie.
TOTTENHAM CAN LAND KESSIE IN JANUARY
Franck Kessie has been a vital part of AC Milan after his move from Atalanta. The Ivory Coast international had one of his best seasons in 2020/21 as he scored 13 goals in Serie A for the Rossoneri.
But with his contract ending in 2022, there is still no progress in a contract extension. Kessie is demanding close to €7million in wages, while AC Milan are only ready to go up to €5.5 million. The situation became tensed with Tottenham ready to pay more than €8 million per year for Kessie.
For Tottenham, the club is looking to strengthen its midfield. Tanguy Ndombele has not featured in any matches this season, with the midfielder falling out with the club. Harry Winks has also not been able to impress and hold his place in the team. Thus bringing in Kessie will help new manager Nuno Espirito Santo to implement his plans efficiently.
AC Milan are now in a tough situation with the club not wanting to let Kessie leave for free. This means that they could be tempted to sell him in January. Unless PSG makes a huge offer it seems that Tottenham will be the Ivorians next destination.
