World Cup-winning French Defender, Samuel Umtiti is one of the several players planning to leave Barcelona. The Catalan club have been eager to clear out unwanted players from the squad. The likes of Neto, Riqui Fuig and Oscar Mingueza among others. The trio of Samuel Umtiti, Martin Braithwaite, and Memphis Depay are all prepared to leave as well.
The 28-year-old is reportedly prepared to leave Camp Nou, with some interest from France, Greece, and Turkey. Manager Xavi has apparently made it abundantly clear that Umtiti has no part in any of his future plans.
Samuel Umtiti’s struggling form
With Andreas Christensen, Gerard Pique, Ronald Araújo, and new arrival Jules Koundé all above him in the Barcelona defensive pecking order, Umtiti would likely be seeing fresher grounds to rejuvenate his career. He arrived in Spain in 2016 from Lyon and made an immediate impact. He excelled in his very first season at the Catalan club.
Yet the French ace has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances and has completely gone out of favor. This proceeded until last season when he only played a single game. In spite of reluctance in the past, he has apparently accepted that his future is at another club. Therefore, he is expected to sign an agreement to leave by the end of the transfer window.
Barcelona’s pre-season tour to the US had excluded Samuel Umtiti. Braithwaite also did not accompany them to the United States.
