Fulham 1-1 Liverpool: Post-Match Analysis and Comments

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Fulham hosted Liverpool at Craven Cottage in Gameweek 12 of the Premier League. The Cottagers played in front of 2000 home fans, this lack of away support might have gotten to the already weakened Liverpool squad.

Liverpool had a chance to move to the top of the table after Tottenham dropped points at Crystal Palace. However, The Reds fumbled the bag and dropped points as well.

Going into the week, this fixture was thought to be an easy win for Liverpool. But Fulham held on to their 1 goal lead till the 79th minute when Mohamed Salah scored a penalty. However, this point did not get the Cottagers out of the relegation zone.

FULHAM 1-1 LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS:

Fulham were without Mitrovic after the Serbian picked up a minor knock in training.

Young Caoimhin Kelleher has made sure Adrian doesn’t even get on the team sheet after back-to-back great performances in the absence of main man Alisson.

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS:

The Cottagers started the game off well in front of the home fans.

“It’s the first time supporters are here for a long, long time and they obviously create an atmosphere, and it helped Fulham a lot to create that atmosphere. They played differently than the way they usually play.”

– Jurgen Klopp on fans returning.

The one thing that didn’t change was the inconsistency in VAR. Fulham were denied a penalty after an incident involving Fabinho in the first half. That penalty would’ve changed the game and maybe Fulham could’ve gotten all 3 points from this tough fixture.

Fulham had 6 shots on target because of which Alisson had to work hard after coming back from injury. However, he couldn’t save all of them as Bobby Reid opened the deadlock for Fulham in the 25th minute. Another positive for Liverpool was Fabinho. The Brazilian has adapted his centre-back position well after Van Dijk was injured early into the season.

The Reds switched on in the final 30 minutes of the game. French goalkeeper Areola also had to make crucial saves in the final 15 minutes.

“I thought first half we showed some real quality and it was clear to see the way we played and moved the ball caused Liverpool, who are a fantastic team, a lot of problems. Probably on the scale of things we could have gone in a couple of goals up in the first half.”

– Fulham manager Scott Parker on the game.
