Gabriel Martinelli was picking up form at a very crucial time for Arsenal. The Gunners are without Martin Odegaard, and he has stepped up to make sure that they don’t miss him. With two goals and two assists in the last three Premier League games, he has been on fire. The Brazilian however is extremely unlucky to have suffered an injury issue now.
During the 2-1 win against Chile in just five minutes of action off the bench, The Brazilian winger got hurt. The MRI scans done on his right calf show muscle edema in a small area. The Brazilian Football Confederation has said they will take care of him to during the break to understand the extent of the injury.
Arsenal have already suffered enough this season. They were lucky to have very few injuries in the last two seasons, but the story is very different this year. They already have a few important players who are a question mark for a few games due to injury. Let’s look at those who can miss the upcoming game against AFC Bournemouth.
Gabriel Martinelli
Gabriel Martinelli is the latest to be added to the list of injured players at Arsenal. The 23-year-old has been an important part of the team for a few years now. He did disappoint last year as his production declined but he is extremely unlucky to get hurt at a time when he was getting back to his best. Arsenal are already without Martin Odegaard, with no clear idea of when he will be back, it was Martinelli who stepped up in the absence of his captain.
During the game against Chile Martinelli was subbed on at the end as a measure to get a goal by the Brazil boss. He managed to get his right calf hurt in the little time that he was on the pitch for. Arsenal already have a gloomy cloud over them when it comes to injuries this season. This injury to Gabriel Martinelli means that it could happen that none of the starting front three start against Bournemouth on the weekend.
Bukayo Saka
Bukayo Saka is the face of Arsenal right now. He is not just the most consistent performer for Arsenal but also for the national team. There can be an argument that he is the most consistent player in the whole league. Saka is pivotal for the team’s success wherever he goes. He has been one of the best players in the Premier League for some time now and has also won two of the last three England Men’s Player of the year awards.
After he came off hobbling in the forty-ninth minute of the game against Greece which ended in a 2-1 defeat for the English. The winger felt something in his right hamstring. The issue looks to be a minor one and he could return for the game against Bournemouth. If he does return, I am never going to believe that Saka limping is something serious. I have lost count of how many times he has come back in the next game after hobbling off in the previous one. ‘Availability’ is also an ‘ability’ so true in his case.
Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber
Finally, some good news for Arsenal fans. These two did not travel with their national teams during the international break. Along with Thomas Partey, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber were nursing their minor issues. The good news is that all three of them are expected to be back for the clash against Bournemouth.
All three of them have been vital for Mikel Arteta’s start to the season. Ben White and Oleksander Zinchenko are also set to make a return but i wouldn’t expect either one of them to start.
Arsenal are in a tough spot. The number of injuries at the cub right now is worrisome. Players like Leandro Trossard have stepped up during this period but how long can Arsenal keep winning without Martin Odegaard?
