Gokulam Kerala FC have signed former U-20 Mali international Saliou Guindo on a free transfer for the upcoming I-League season.
The 24-year-old striker Guindo have previously represented his national team in U-20 FIFA World Cup 2015 where they surprised most by securing the 3rd Position and also in U-20 AFCON Cup where they finished 4th. Domestically it was his last season which was a very fruitful one, top scorer in Albanian League with 11 goals and 3 assists for FK Byllis Ballsh.
The 5’10 has a decent skillset very fast, a high presser, have a good pace to burn in the locker. Not a self imposer kind of player and not brilliant at finishing from feet. But most important he is young and still developing at his trade.
I think it’s a decent acquisition, Gokulam and Churchill are now used to finding gems from African and West Indies regions as is the case with Willis Plaza. These clubs have a strong scouting network up there to buy low-cost gems.
Apart from Saliou Guindo, The Malabarians have added former Ghana international Muhammad Awal, Ghanian Dennis Antwi, Afghani player Sharif Mukammad from Maziya s&RC to their Ranks as major foreign Recruits.
Indian players like Deepak Devrani(CB) from TRAU, Ronald Ngangom, Roshan Singh, and Zodingliana Ralte from Neroca FC are also added to provide cover. Also, they brought Mahip Adhikari a young Prospect from Garhwal FC after his good performances in I League 2nd Division.
The standout foreign recruit is forward Dennis Antwi who has experience of playing in Norway and Sweden. He had some decent goalscoring seasons in Ghana Premier League and Norway Leagues. He is a pacy and powerful player who can play as a lone striker, Second Striker, or on the wing. And is just 27 and in his prime days.
Deepak Devrani was the major player why Trau surprised some in I-League last season and did solid defensively. I also have seen Ronald play for Neroca and scoring important goals for them, his last I league season returned 3 goals and 1 assist in 16 games.
So Overall, Some Superb Transfer Business is done in the window to back their new coach in Vicenzo Alberto(Italian) and just aged 36 so very young.
The Kozhikode Outfit have also started their Preparations for the upcoming I-League season from 10th November at Ems Stadium. I League 20-21 is starting from 9th January. All the matches are to be played at Kolkata to maintain a close-Covid bubble.
This is what Saliou Goindu has to say about his First training Session:
“I am glad to sign for Gokulam Kerala FC. I have taken part in a training session already and the squad is full of young and vibrant players. I am ready to work hard and make sure that we bring the trophy back home,”– Saliou Goindu
I believe they have a very capable and strong squad, worries were there when Marcus Joseph and Henry Kisseka left last season but the additions are more than capable to follow what they have done.
They can surely compete for 2nd or even 1st this I-League season.
