Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is making the headlines. The 49-year-old manager was very vocal in his recent interview. The Englishman is keen to make his return as a manager in club football. It’s been 17 months since the sacking of the 49-year-old from the Stamford Bridge. As it stand, he finally feels ready to make a managerial return. He took the job in London after Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel had already led the Blues to a UCL title. So, many were already questioning the decision to fire him. Nonetheless, the Englishman was the first manager under the Todd Boehly era.
Graham Potter at Chelsea
The 49-year-old joined the Blues from Brighton. He led the Seagulls to a 9th place finish in the Premier League. Brighton were able to fight and win against many top clubs under his tenure. At the same time, they even began to play an attractive brand of football. Graham Potter caught the eyes of many and Chelsea chose to appoint him. But, things went south quickly for the Englishman. With many new players coming-in, the Blues were never able to find their groove under him. As per wikipedia, he had a mere 38.71 win% with them. To make matters worse, Chelsea finished 11th in the league under him. As a result, he was fired.
Potter keen to get back after Chelsea frustration
The Englishman went on to speak about his time with the Blues in an interview with the Telegraph. He revealed that he felt ready to return for a while. At the same time, he finds club football more rewarding that international. So, we could see him joining a new club very soon. He went on to say that he had no regrets over the Chelsea job. But, at the same time he couldn’t help but feel ‘frustration, anger and maybe bitterness’ over losing his job. It will be interesting to see where he will coach next.
