Premier

Manchester City won against Bayern Munich in the Champions League first leg of the quarter finals. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola reassured that there are no worries about the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne.

During Manchester City’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich, Kevin De Bruyne received treatment on the pitch. He was substituted in the 68th minute. Prior to his substitution, the Belgian was struggling with his usual energy and vigor. Hence, even Haaland had to drop deeper for a few seconds to help maintain City’s formation.

Julian Alvarez replaced De Bruyne in the 68th minute of the match against Bayern Munich. However, Kevin De Bruyne was unhappy with Pep Guardiola’s decision. However, when asked about the substitution, Guardiola clarified that it was a tactical decision to bring on Alvarez for De Bruyne.

Guardiola said:

“I saw the performance and took the decision. In that moment we needed extra energy from Julian. I am here to take the decisions and it is my biggest quality.”

What did Guardiola said about Bernardo Silva?

After Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund, Pep Guardiola singled out one of his goalscorers for special praise. He said:

“Bernardo is a football player, he can play everywhere because he understands the game perfectly and every action with and without the ball. When Davies starts to go you cannot stop.”

“Bernardo has the ability to read the positions, give us an extra pass. He’s so important in these types of games, he can play holding midfielder. He’s so, so important player and lately he’s scoring goals and now he’s being decisive.”

“Bernardo is a player who you say is going to play in that position and you don’t have to say anything else. I’ve been lucky to coach some very good players for Barca and Bayern. He’s one of the best players I ever trained in my life, ever, he’s something special as a football player.”

Silva played in 42 games across all competitions this season. Thus, making him one of the most frequently fielded players in the Manchester City squad. Only Rodri has made more appearances. During the match against Bayern Munich, Silva scored his fifth goal of the campaign. He also provided an assist for City’s opening goal.
