Arsenal are now said to have serious interest to sign Ousmane Diomande. The 20 year old defender is highly rated and has €80 million release clause. He plays for Sporting and helped them to win the Portugese league last season.
Diomande is one of the best young defenders in the world right now. He joined Sporting in january 2023 and had an instant impact. His first full season saw him getting crowned as Portugese champion.
The 20 year old played 38 games last season and was able to score 3 goals along with picking 1 assist. This season he has again started on high note and has caught attention of top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
Arsenal serious to make a move for Diomande
Gunners are said to have a serious interest in signing Diomande as per Portugese newspaper Record. It is not the first time Arsenal are keen to sign the defender as they made a bid earlier too. Gunners submitted a £30 million bid which was quickly rejected by Sporting.
Diomande has been tied to Sporting with a contract running until 2027. But, it looks like he may be available for a move in January. He has €80 million release clause and Sporting will demand the full price.
Sporting have no intention to sell the defender so early. The player’s agent too said it earlier that staying in Portugal is best for the defender’s improvement. He labelled Sporting as ‘ideal club’ for Diomande and said that the defender is satisfied.
Arsenal have a good depth in defence right now. But some of the stars are very close to exit like Jakub Kiwior. Mikel Arteta likes to have enough options available and hence may try to sign a new defender.
But the player’s price will also come in discussion as spending €80 for a player who will serve as a backup does not seem right. Yes, Diomande is still young and has lot to offer, but other defenders at Arsenal are relatively young too.
