Arsenal are looking great. On the back of great performances against Manchester City, Atlanta, and PSG, the team looks stronger than ever under Arteta. The Gunners without their captain have performed better than expected. They have had tough fixtures to begin but have remained unbeaten. With the start to the season that they have had and fresh from a dominant performance against Paris Saint Germain, it appears that this Arsenal squad has what it takes to transition from being one of the best teams in England to one of the best.
To become a top team, you need top talent. Arsenal have one of the best defenses in the world right now and with Merino coming in it looks like the midfield is also sorted now. Signings like Timber, Calafiori, Sterling, and Trossard have bolstered the squad’s depth but it’s not perfect. The absence of an out-and-out number nine is the biggest glaring hole. But is not the only concern. The Gunners hope to solve this and are looking at options in the Bundesliga. Let’s talk about two of them, Florian Wirtz and Benjamin Sesko.
The Gunners to battle Europe’s elites for Florian Wirtz
The Gunners would love to add one of the best prospects in world football to their attack. The 21-year-old German midfielder/attacker won the Bundesliga Player of the Season last year, helping his team win their first league title. Leverkusen went on an unbeaten run that was ended in the Europa League final by Atalanta. He has also made his mark on the national team and is a regular starter now. His positional versatility is also great and compliments Arsenal’s system well.
The youngster can either play on the left wing, a position that is still up for grabs in the Arsenal starting lineup or he can play next to Odegaard in the midfield with Rice playing as the single pivot at times. The talented German attacking midfielder amassed thirty-eight goals and assists in forty-nine matches last year. Even though the asking price for him will be upwards of £100 million pounds, it is understood that many top clubs will compete for his signature irrespective of the price tag.
He is not just the shiniest new toy on the market, he’s a generational talent. Arsenal wish to compete with the best in the world. Signing a player like Florian Wirtz would mean a lot for The Gunners. Real Madrid are the front runners to sign the youngster, but Manchester City and Arsenal are also strong contenders. Getting him will be difficult but according to reports, it looks like Arsenal have a solid chance of bringing him to North London.
Arsenal will come back for Benjamin Sesko
The Gunners were close to signing the striker during summer. They had agreed to pay the release clause of £55 million but the player’s decision to stay at Leipzig for at least one more year meant that the deal could not be completed. The striker is hitting top form this season and his value is expected to rise. He is someone who can finish with both feet and is extremely quick. He can hold the ball and wait for others to make runs behind the defense but also has the ability to dribble past players with ease. The 195 cm tall Slovenian will be another threat from set pieces and the idea of him playing up top with Havertz is scary enough to make opposition managers and center backs lose sleep.
Arsenal have a great squad but getting stronger is the only way forward. Arteta has worked at City and knows the importance of marquee signings. The Gunners are playing at a high level and are a well-constructed team. If they manage to sign both Florian Wirtz and Benjamin Sesko, they won’t be far from being the best.
