Throughout the last season, one position that Arsenal were trying to improve was the striker position. They tried Jesus at that position but his performance let the squad the fans down. After a while, Arteta went with Havertz playing as a false 9 for some matches. Despite this concern, the goals came for the Gunners. They were one of the leading goal scorer teams in the Premier league last season.
When the season ended and the transfer updates were coming in, it was reported that Arsenal will focus mainly on getting a quality striker. However so far, there have been almost no approach by them for a striker in the transfer market. As of now they have only made David Raya’s deal permanent and signed Riccardo Calafiori. The latest update is their pursuit of Mike Marino.
There were quite a few names in the striking department that were getting linked to Arsenal. Some notable names were Julian Alvarez, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres. Amongst these, Atletico Madrid has already signed Julian Alvarez from Manchester city. they reached an agreement on a whooping €75m plus €20m add-ons deal.
Now Arsenal have Osimhen and Gyokeres as their option. They needed to a make a quick decision amongst the choices and now it seems that they have decided.
Gyokeres had an amazing last season for Sporting Lisbon. He scored 43 goal and provided 15 assists in 50 matches for Sporting last season. Only being 26 years old currently and performing consistently for his club, Gyokeres is a decent option for Gunners.
Osimhen on the other hand have been making waves in the footballing world ever since he joined Napoli. Till now he has played 133 games for Napoli and has scored 76 goals, providing 18 assists overall. Not only that, he also helped Napoli clinched the Serie A title in 22/23 season since the 1989-90 season.
He has been a key player for Napoli and they clearly have no intentions to let a player of his potential leave. That is the reason that they have set the asking price near his release clause of €130 million.
Apart from this, Osimhen seems to be drifting away from the idea of continuing at Napoli. He is also not even available for the pre season tour. However, Arsenal does not seem to be his next destination. Many clubs are interested to secure his service and Arsenal are not ready to pay such a high asking price by Napoli.
So ultimately, the Gunners have shifted their attention to the Swedish striker. However, there have been some recent updates in the transfer saga.
Arsenal’s rival Tottenham Hotspur are in the market looking for a striker. With some few other players, they also have Gyokeres on their favourable options. We can actually see a battle between the London clubs for the Swedish player.
To make space for Gyokeres, Arsenal may sell Eddie Nketiah. Olympique Marseille are showing some keen interest to sign the player. This signing would not only help financially, but would make the squad space available for Gyokeres.
Whatever Arsenal are planning to do, they need to act quickly. Letting go of a quality player like Gyokeres is always a bad decision. However, letting them go to your arch rival is even worse. Gunners need to go into this season with quality and strength in every single position. If signing Gyokeres is the solution to attain that they need to do it. Whatever Arsenal’s decision will be, we all will get to know. Furthermore, you will also find the updates regarding not only this transfer but every updates in the footballing world on our site.
