Hammers Close to Securing Moroccan Defender

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

West Ham are in talks to sign Rennes center back Nayef Aguerd this summer. The club are confident they can secure his services in the coming days, with a move close according to multiple reports. David Moyes wants to strengthen the central defence after a solid European season.

French-Morrocan connection: Aguerd’s French Journey

Having started off at FUS Rabat in Morocco, Aguerd won the title in 2016 before moving to Dijon. The 26-year-old flirted with relegation a couple of times before Rennes surprisingly moved for him. He repaid their trust with a fine 20/21 campaign for them and stood out in the Champions league games. Aguerd’s form this season has seen him attract interest from many clubs, including West Ham.

The left-footed Moroccan was a rock for his country at the recently concluded AFCON. They ended up conceding just one goal in the group stages before falling to Egypt in the semi-finals. This loss didn’t hurt that much as Morocco won the World Cup qualifier, booking their tickets for the Qatar event.

West Ham Long-Standing Interest:

David Moyes has made signing a left-footed center back his priority this summer. Their interest in Aguerd dates back to 2021, but the Moroccan decided to stay at Rennes for another season to sharpen his skills. He is now close to finalizing a switch to the London side in a £13 million deal according to The Evening Standard.

Playing Style and PL Transition:

Nayef Aguerd who is fluent in English, Arabic, French, and Spanish should be able to settle in England right away without any problems.

The Hammers are making a great addition to their backline, with another set-piece threat joining the squad. Aguerd is not only great in the air but has also made the most forward passes in Europe this season. He has already been touted as a long-term replacement for the left-footed Ogbonna. His mind-blowing availability throughout previous campaigns is another underrated attribute of his game.

Moyes’ insistence for a ball-playing center back will help make his team strong contenders for a top 6 finish next season. The arrival of Aguerd should give West Ham fans added hope for the new season.
