West Ham United have been very busy this transfer market. They parted ways with David Moyes after a long time and have replaced him with Julen Lopetegui. Lopetegui has been working hard to improve the squad ever since his arrival to the London based club. The Spaniard expressed his feeling about signing Max Kilman who was his captain last season. Hammers were working hard to get Kilman but initially failed. They have finally achieved the signature of former Wolves captain and announced him as their new player.
West Ham already completed the signing of Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham. Luis Guilherme costed the club £25 million while Foderingham arrived on a free transfer. After the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, he addressed that they are trying to improve the squad. In addition he said that they are happy with the existing players but need to try and improve in an attempt to be ready for Premier League. Technical director Tim Steidten also shared the similar view and promised the fans a busy transfer window. In addition, Steidten said that the club is working on all areas as the club is in good financial shape.
Hammers get their hands on Kilman
West Ham were interested in Max Kilman ever since the arrival of Lopetegui. Kilman was Lopetegui’s captain last season. The 27 year old defender started in all of the 38 Premier League fixtures in 2023/24 season. Initially, Hammers made a bid of £25 million for the defender which was quickly turned down by Wolves. However, West Ham were desperate to sign Kilman at all costs.
West Ham finally completed the signing of Max Kilman on 6th July for a fee reported to be £40 million. Hammers have offered the defender a seven year contract and his announcment has been made public on official West Ham United website.
Earlier, the reports emerged that Lopetegui is planning to make Kilman new West Ham captain. Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma both have their future uncertain at the club. The defending due have been linked with Saudi moves. However no advance talks have yet been reported.
Kilman after signing a contract with West Ham
Kilman spent six successful years with Wolves. He has finally started a new chapter in his life after signing a seven year contract with West Ham. After signing the contract Kilman said its an amazing feeling to be a new West Ham player. Kilman added that he was keen to join Hammers as soon as he came to know about their interest in him. Speaking about Lopetegui, Kilman said that the Spaniard is a top class coach and he improved a lot under him. The 27 year old hopes that he is able to continue evolving under the new West Ham manager.

Tim Steidten about Kilman’s signing
West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten is thrilled about Kilman joining the Hammers. He said that Kilman was one the top targets and they are delighted to secure the defender’s services. Steidten added that this is serious and notable moment for the club to sign a top defender in the peak of his career.
Steidten then went on to praise the defender for his skills. He praised Kilman’s strong and powerful leadership qualities in particular. To conclude, Steidten hoped that all West Ham fans are happy about the signing and give Kilman a warm welcome.
