SERIE A

How European Super League will affect Serie A clubs?

The top clubs in Serie A Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan have agreed to join the new Europe’s 12 elite clubs founded competition European Super League. The starting date of the competition hasn’t yet confirmed but they want to start as soon as possible.

Six clubs from English Premier League like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur decided to join the competition. From Spanish La Liga Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have joined. And from Serie A Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan are in a new competition.

Their main goal is to break away from the UEFA Champions League and create a new league. That will guarantee their qualification to the new elite European tournament. And the money will keep on coming in every year. However, they want to play in the domestic league.

As the matter of fact, AC Milan and Inter Milan have a rich history in the world of football. However, they are very much out of the title of the European elites in the last decade. They have struggled to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in recent years. Even other Italian clubs like Napoli, Atalanta, Roma and Lazio have had more success than these two teams. So, this new competition will serve them perfectly. As they won’t be required to become successful on the pitch to remain in the new competition.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin gave an interview yesterday and said,

” We will do the sanctions we can do within the law, of course We will try to use all the sanctions against the Super League clubs. As soon as possible they have to be banned from all our competitions, players too.”

How the new European Super League might affect Serie A?

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 17 non-participating Super League clubs held a meeting on Monday evening. At first Juventus, Inter and Milan were not going to be part of the meeting. But they took part in the Serie A clubs meeting.

Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan expressed their interest to remain in the domestic competitions and play in Serie A. And also they are now part of the new competition European Super League.

Atalanta, Hellas Verona and Cagliari have asked for Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan to be excluded from Serie A. Because of their participation in the European Super League as the response to the new competition.

If that happens, Atalanta would be the top team in the competition and they would go on to win an unlikely league title this year despite Inter Milan’s best efforts so far.

There will be three more clubs that will get promoted from Serie B. If the Bianconeri, Nerazzurri and Rossoneri are kicked out of their domestic competitions.

UEFA and Lega Serie A expect to meet separately soon to determine how to respond to the teams threatening to break away. It will be tough on Serie A without their biggest teams in the competition, but it will also be hard on the breakaway teams because they will not have enough games to play in a calendar year. This is becoming like an interesting civil war.

UEFA and the all domestic leagues have expressed their views strongly against this new competition. The Government and politicians also voiced against this competition. This competition will break the football pyramid and the dreams of millions of fans who are dreaming that their clubs will play in elite European competitions and play the elite teams.
