Arsenal are doing really well but some stars have not been able to leave an impact. One of those stars is Gabriel Jesus. Jesus has lost his place as a regular starter since falling down the pecking order last season. Jesus is being trolled but Arsenal legend Ian Wright has came to his rescue and said some nice things about the striker.

Ian Wright defends Gabriel Jesus

Ian Weight felt the need to defend the Brazilian striker. He said on his podcast called Wrighty’s house that he feels the need to support Jesus right now. Firstly, he said that there is a feeling that we (Arsenal) may have outgrown Jesus, but remember when he came he levelled up Arsenal.

“Arsenal are at a certain level now but we will definately need him at some stage so I think it is important in this moment for the Arsenal fans to support him” – Ian Wright speaking about supporting Gabriel Jesus.

Wright asked Arsenal fans to get behind the striker and to not get frustrated. He added that Jesus is working hard and they will need him. Wright then said that they should make sure that the striker feels confident as he has already won Premier League four times.

Lastly, the Arsenal great said that Jesus has been clutch player many times and wants to do so much. He ended by saying that the striker really needs support right now.

How has Jesus been for Arsenal?

This is the third season Jesus is playing for Gunners. Last season he was only able to score 4 goals in the league along with providing 5 assists in 27 matches. Many feel that the stats should have been higher considering Jesus plays at number nine position.

But if we consider only Champions League fixtures last season, Jesus seems like a completely different player. He played 8 UCL matches last season but only started 4 of those. But, he was able to score 4 goals and provide 3 assists showcasing his real quality.

In his first season at North London, Jesus was able to score 11 goals and provide 7 assists. He has a completely different profile than strikers like Erling Haaland to tend to score regularly.

Jesus is more involved in creating chances and is very good in tight spaces. He is a typical Brazilian footballer who is extremely creative on the pitch and likes to keep possession.

In the 2022/23 season, Jesus had xG of 0.61 and xA of 0.13 and was creating 1.35 chances per 90. He was also good in dribbling and had 1.95 dribbles per 90.

That season, Jesus also played a huge role in helping his team when it came to defending. He won 75.8% tackles, 41.7% ground duels and 36.6% ariel duels. He also helped Gunners in making interceptions, blocks and recoveries. Stats as per FOTMOB.
