India 1-2 Belarus: Analysis
India started off well and had almost taken a lead in the first five minutes of the match. Soumya Gugluloth’s lethal shot from outside the box rattled the Belarus crossbar.
India chose to sit deep and loom for counterattacks. This gave Belarus plenty of possession and was proving themselves threatening in India’s half. India was unable to exploit the empty spaces in the Belarus defense. However, the Blue Tigresses managed to guard their goal well. It was goalless at the break and India was relieved to not have conceded in spite of Belarus’ endless attempts at the goal.
Five minutes past halftime and Belarus finally found the back of the Indian net but India got lucky when the referee signaled it as offside. Soon a penalty awarded to Belarus and Anastasia Shuppo made it 1-0.
Chaos in the Indian defense gave Belarus a double goal lead. A good through ball and Anna Pilipenko crumbled India’s hopes of winning. India showed resilience and Sangita Basfore made it 1-2 at the additional time.
This was not the result the head coach of the Indian National Team, Maymol Rocky have expected. There’s plenty of work to do for the Blue Tigresses.
Anju Tamang (7/10): Indian right back Tamang made quick transitions from attack to defense and vice versa. She also made some vital blocks to deny Belarus of moving ahead in the game.
Sangita Basfore (7.5/10): Basfore scored a consolation goal for India in the 94th minute. Although there wasn’t enough time to make a comeback Basfore’s goal was the only one from India in the internal friendlies campaign in Uzbekistan.
