India will open the 2023 Hero Intercontinental Cup against Mongolia

On June 9, 2023, at 19.30 IST, the Hero Intercontinental Cup will begin at the Kalinga Stadium with a match between India and Mongolia. On the same day at 16:30 IST, Lebanon and Vanuatu, the other two participating teams, will square off.

The competition is a part of India’s training for the Qatar 2023 AFC Asian Cup. India will compete in the SAFF Championship 2023, which will take place in Bengaluru from June 21–July 3, 2023, right after the Hero Intercontinental Cup.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced the fixtures and dates of all the matches in the tournament that will see the Indian men’s national team lock horns with Mongolia, Vanuatu and Lebanon in June 2023. 

The Blue Tigers will attempt to use this event to foster understanding and determine their strongest squad for the AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Qatar in January 2024 and for which the draw was done on Thursday.

From the next week until May 15, 2023, the National Team will be camping in Bhubaneswar under the direction of head coach Igor Stimac in order to get ready for the competition.

In The Hero Intercontinental Cup will see its third iteration; the first two, in 2018 and 2019, were hosted in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, respectively.

Before the top two teams square off in the final, which is scheduled to take place on June 18, 2023, all four teams will play each other once.
