A number of our own Indian players have added to the mix in spectacular fashion. Liston Colaco, Sahal Abdul Samad, etc a few names, have all been on target this campaign.

The foreigners too have shown why they are valued so highly, contributing with their fair share of impressive strikes. In this article, we pick the best 5 golazos from the ongoing season which could line up for Goal of the Season.

Mirlan Murzaev vs Odisha FC

Chennaiyin FC have struggled to find the back of the net this term, very much like they did last season. Boss Bozidar Bandovic implemented a number of tactics but has been unsuccessful so far. Initially he placed his faith in Rahim Ali then gave Lukasz Gikiewicz a go. Eventually he rethought the system and paired up Mirlan Murzaev and Lallianzuala Chhangte in attack.

The formation change clicked for the Marina Machans as Murzaev bagged a marvelous goal from long-range. In the second period, Chennaiyin were ahead against Odisha FC. A swift counter from the former saw Murzaev pick up the ball unmarked around the halfway line which he rifled past a diving Kamaljit Singh. It was the Kyrgyz Republic international’s first goal on Indian soil.

Alvaro Vazquez vs Mumbai City FC

Spaniard Alvaro Vazquez has chipped in majorly for the Kerala Blasters‘ rise in the Indian Super League this season. A high-profile acquisition, he got off to a slow start. While a lot of speculation surrounded him regarding his signing and effectives, he began to bloom. The ex-Swansea City star has starred in the Premier League. Vazquez likes to pull the strings and is always on his feet. As a result, he is either assisting or scoring.

The Tuskers were up against Mumbai City FC. Sahal Abdul Samad netted early on to calm the nerves. However, there was more in store. Harmanjot Khabra and Jeakson Singh played a quick one-two on the wings. Khabra squared it back to Jeakson who drilled in a cross. Vazquez, waiting to pounce, positioned himself and wrapped his foot around the ball to power in a shot which Mohammad Nawaz helpless. The Spanish international showcased great technique and awareness to time a beautiful volley.

Adrian Luna vs FC Goa

Kerala Blasters had a rocky start to the Indian Super League 2021 with an opening day loss to ATK Mohun Bagan. However, since then they have been in top form. They lead the standings and have displayed breathtaking consistency and tenacity. Adrian Luna is by far one of the Tuskers’ best performers this season. He possesses the perseverance, technique and character to thrive and shepherd his side to great heights.

His strike came in the game against FC Goa. The Blasters had already taken the lead. About 19 minutes in, Alavaro Vazquez rolled a short pass to Luna. With a quick glance at goal, he unleashed a venomous shot. The ball swerved and hit the inside of the far post to beat a stretching Dheeraj Singh and fly into the net. It was a daring effort and is bound to go down for Goal of the Season.

Liston Colaco vs FC Goa

Not picking Liston Colaco’s emphatic strike would be a crime and it would definitely be a contender for Goal of the Season. ATK Mohun Bagan were already in control with a flurry of attacks against FC Goa. Nonetheless, a long range cannonball shocked everyone and broke the deadlock.

Hugo Boumous pinged the ball wide to Liston Colaco. The forward controlled it and coolly shrugged off his marker before pulling the trigger. Dheeraj Singh could only watch it ripple the back of the net. Statistics say that the shot had a velocity of 181 kmph, the 6th fastest in football. That put him on the list of elite footballers, including Bayern Munich legend, Arjen Robben.

Greg Stewart vs Kerala Blasters

Jamshedpur FC were up against Kerala Blasters. The Scot was the one who put the Men of Steel ahead, credit to an absolute screamer of a freekick. Placed 40 yards out, Stewart stepped up. The Tuskers were prepared for an inswinging cross for a teammate in the area.

But there was just one man in the wall and Prabshukan Gill positioned more to his left, affording a little space at the near post. Stewart seized the opportunity and what followed was a real treat. The ball easily cleared the one-man wall, curled inward beautifully and flew into the net.

Fans of the Scotsman, along with others around the globe, could not get enough of it. It was an amazing effort by a special footballer who is Jamshedpur’s brightest spark.
