Injured Bayern Munich Midfielder doubtful for Euros

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka picked up an injury during their match against Borussia Monchengladbach in Bundesliga. Reports coming out are not positive as the German could miss the upcoming Euros for his nation.

Goretzka came on as a second-half substitute during the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, he only lasted 10 minutes on the pitch as he came off due to the injury. Bayern Munich confirmed that Goretzka has torn his thigh muscle and is set to miss the remainder of the season for them.

For Bayern Munich, the news has dampened their title celebration. The Bavarians have already secured the Bundesliga title this season prior to their kickoff against Gladbach. With just two more games left, Bayern won’t be having any issues coping with the loss.

However, this is not the case for the player and German national team. Goretzka if not fit, will not be able to get into the Germany squad for the European Championship to be held in the mid of June. This gives him only a few weeks to be ready and fit for the competition.

Goretzka is an excellent box-to-box midfielder who is very industrious. He is a relentless presser of the ball and his physicality helps him in both attack and defense. He has scored 8 goals for Bayern in all competitions this season.

As for Germany national team coach Joachim Low, this gives a serious headache. Goretzka is one of the main players on the German national side and is a regular in the midfield. Not having the German for the competition will be an issue for Low especially in a more physical matchup.

With the likes of Toni Kroos, Joshua Kimmich, and Ilkay Gundogan to pick from as well as the impressive performance of players like Florian Neuhaus and Mahmoud Dahoud this season, Low has a plethora of options to choose from. However, it would be amazing for the Die Mannschaft as well as Leon Goretzka himself, if he can be fit and ready for the Euros.
