Declan Rice who has been a key player for Gunners since last year will miss the derby. It is due to getting a red card versus Brighton. Mikel Arteta is now even more worried as one new Arsenal player has faced injury.
The player who got injured is Riccardo Calafiori. Calafiori was having a great game against France. However, he was taken off in the second half due to injury.
What exactly happened
Italy were playing against France in Paris. France scored in the opening minute to take the lead. However, Italy showed a great response. Dimarco scored in 30th minute and tied the score 1-1 at the end of first half. In the next half, Italy scored two more and won the match by 3-1.
However, in the 71st minute Calafiori was subbed off for Alessandro Buongiorno. The new Arsenal superstar was superb the whole time but faced an injury. Bastoni won the ball from Dembele but caught Dembele during his follow through. Dembele’s leg then caught the back of the calf of Calafiori.
Calafiori was looking in immense pain. The reactions from his teammates were suggesting that the injury is very serious. However, Italian coach has said opposite to that. Spalletti said that they need to asses the defender. He added that with the help of staff he will be able to play the next match. Spelletti’s quotes as per Metro.
Another new Arsenal joinee already sidelined due to injury
Riccardo Calafiori could be seen in the Gunners squad against Spurs, if what his international coach is saying is true. However, Gunners are still going to miss Mikel Merino who also joined them this summer. Unlike Calafiori, Merino has still not been able to make his Arsenal debut. He faced a shoulder injury keeping him sidelined. As per recent news, he will return in mid October and will miss atleast 7 matches.
