Antonio Conte will be looking to strengthen his squad this summer as Inter Milan are planning to sign 32-year-old Angel di Maria as soon as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires by the end of June next year.
Inter Milan are most likely to let Lautaro Martinez leave the club at the end of this season. Clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are looking to sign the goal-hungry forward. This would mean that Conte’s side would be left with Romelu Lukaku and a revived Alexis Sanchez for his much preferred front two positions.
Christian Eriksen is also expected to leave Serie A giants in the January transfer window after falling out with Conte at San Siro. Di Maria is capable of playing on different positions in midfield and on the wing as well.
Considering his age, di Maria may not seem to be a long term solution. Yet the former Real Madrid star has shown in the past few weeks that he still has an eye for the goal. He has scored 3 times in 7 appearances in the Ligue 1 this season.
Di Maria to leave PSG next summer?
The player admitted that he wished to end his European career in PSG but stated that it was not entirely his choice. PSG have a vibrant attack with the likes of Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi, and Moise Kean.
With PSG’s focus primarily on the Champions League, they would look at bolstering their attack even further.
Di Maria played a big role in PSG’s run to the Champions League Final last season. Yet, he was subbed off at the hour mark in the final. Sure that puzzled a lot of fans but PSG do not seem to be interested in keeping their ageing players.
Last season they sold Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani for free and the year before that they sold Dani Alves. If Angel di Maria is let to go the same way, it would not be a surprise.
Inter Milan’s interest in Di Maria:
PSG with Tuchel and Inter with Conte have been dominantly defensive sides. It took both the teams to the finals of the Champions League and Europa League respectively.
At 32, Inter Milan may not seem to be a bad idea for di Maria who thrived under defensive managers before. Conte himself has been acclaimed for reviving the careers of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
Let’s hope this does not turn into a nightmare for him like Manchester United.
