Piotr Zielinski became a free agent this summer. He left Napoli after 8 successful seasons. Over those seasons, he played 364 matches for the club. He was a key player of the squad as he scored 51 goals and picked 46 assists to display his quality.
A lot of clubs were interested to sign the Polish international who has played 98 international matches for his country. He is 30 years old and surely has more to offer at the highest level.
Despite the interest from foreign clubs, Zielinski opted to stay in Italy. He joined Inter Milan as a free agent and has played 12 games for them this season. He has now opened about the clubs interested in him and why he opted to stay in Italy.
Arsenal and Liverpool were keen to sign Zielinski
The 30 year old midfielder has now many clubs were interested to sign him. He named four clubs in particular out of which two were Arsenal and Liverpool. The rest two were Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
“There were clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid interested in me, and I also received concrete requests from Barcelona” – Zielinski about the clubs interested to sign him this summer.
“However, I love Italy. When I arrived at Napoli I immediately felt at ease, and for this reason it would have been difficult for me to move to England” – Zielinski on why he snubbed Premier League clubs.
Lastly, Zielinski said that he could have considered Spain but his priority was to continue his career in Italy. The Polan international has played in Italy throughout his whole career. Inter Milan is the fourth club in Italy represented by him. The player’s quotes are via TBR Football.
Arsenal then went on to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. Liverpool were keen to sign a Real Sociedad player too. But, Zubimendi too snubbed the Reds and hence Arne Slot had to use the available players. He will not regret as Liverpool are now on top of Premier League.
