Irshad and George to join Northeast United

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Mohammed Irshad and Jestin George would be joining Northeast United for the next season in the Hero Indian Super League. The former joins from SC East Bengal whereas the latter is making a move to the ISL from defending I-league champions Gokulam Kerala FC.

According to Khel Now, both the players would be signing a multi-year contract deal extending up to the 2023-24 season. Irshad had many offers from other teams but he has now opted for a move to the more decorated and glamorous league.

The defensive department was lacking options earlier for Khalid Jamil’s side. But, after the signing of these two youngsters, things could get better!

Irshad and George – new defensive options for Northeast United

Jestin George joined Gokulam Kerala from the Under-18 side of Bengaluru FC in 2017. Since then, the 23-year-old centre-back has made 17 appearances scoring a goal and assisting just once. Thus, he faced a little bit of less playing time for the Malabarians.

As compared to this, Irshad joined East Bengal from Gokulam in 2020. But, the 26-year-old defender just made four appearances for the Bengal giants. Then, he had a loan stint at RoundGlass Punjab FC, where he made just seven appearances. Both of them were teammates at the Kerala club and it would be interesting to see a reunion once again in the ISL!

As a result, the Highlanders have roped in both the players at the right time. They are also keen on signing Laldanmawia from Hyderabad, another player who lacks playing time.

As per Journalist Hari Thoyakkat, both the players are mostly signing a 3-year long contract.

Will the Malayali players follow the steps of V P Suhair, who is currently also impressing at the Highlanders?
