Antoine Semenyo has impressed this season at Bournemouth. He has improved his production and is looking like Bournemouth’s best attacker this season. With Dominic Solanke gone, it looks like this is his year to shine. He has scored three goals in seven games in the Premier League this season and has taken the second-most number of shots this season, only behind Erling Haaland. This has attracted a few clubs. Arsenal and Newcastle United are currently the favorites to secure his signature. Arsenal have been linked with Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala but getting them to come to London will be difficult. Semenyo on the other hand, is looking like a Premier League-level player and will cost one-third of either of the Germans. Should he go to Newcastle, or should he go to Arsenal? Let’s find out
Antonie Semenyo at Newcastle United
Newcastle are not looking great this season. They might have a few points on the board but make no mistake they have been pretty bad. With so much around Kieran Trippier leaving and Sandro Tonali coming back, it looks like the team has lost all confidence. Anthony Gordon has been alright, nothing special. Alexander Isak was barely getting opportunities before he got injured. Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes are the only ones who have provided reasons to be happy. Both of them have stepped up but it looks like Newcastle don’t view either as a long-term starter.
This opens the door for a new winger, Antoine Semenyo can be that for the team. Not just that, his versatility is according to me his best attribute which would be valuable at Newcastle. The Magpies have been linked with him and are reportedly ready to meet the ask by Bournemouth. Playing for Newcastle would be a major upgrade for the Ghana international, but you know what would be a bigger upgrade than this? Playing for Arsenal.
How can Arsenal use him?
Arsenal are reportedly interested in him and another teammate of his. Let’s be honest. Antoine Semenyo won’t start but will be an important addition to the team. For times like this, where Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz might not be available, Semenyo would be the perfect replacement. Antoine Semenyo is versatile and able to play both on the wings and in central positions. He’s known for taking on defenders, but sometimes struggles with making the right decisions near the opponent’s goal Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing him and also the Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez in a two-player deal with Bournemouth.
I don’t live inside Mikel Arteta’s brain, so I have no clue why wants to sign Milos Kerkez. Maybe he thinks that Zinchenko and Tierney are too injury prone, I don’t know. But what I do know is that with a player like Bryan Mbeumo expected to be up for grabs, why would Arteta not look at him? Or a player like Eberechi Eze? Both of them are young, and more experienced than Semenyo. Both of them look like the kind of players who would flourish when paired with quality teammates. Maybe Arsenal sees something in Antoine Semenyo that I am missing because I think that there are many better options available.
Where should Semenyo go?
If he wants to get regular minutes and start for a club that is expected to play either Europa League or Conference league every year, then he should go to Newcastle. I even expect them to get a UCL spot once every two or three years. But with the recent acquisition of the club, the new owners have big plans and Antoine Semenyo could really benefit from it.
The case for going to Arsenal is very simple, get a chance to compete for every trophy and play in the UCL almost every season. But is sitting on the bench the best thing for the 24-year-old? I don’t think so and I believe that a move to Newcastle will help him develop much faster.
