Is James Garner the solution to United midfield problems?

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

James Garner has been playing his trade in the English Championship this season for Nottingham Forest. On loan from Manchester United, the England U-21 regular has impressed a lot of people. With the impending departure of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, United will definitely need more bodies in midfield in next season.

A new manager is going to take over the reins from Ralf Rangnick in the summer. Hence, the summer is the perfect opportunity for Garner to prove himself to the new manager.

With regular game time under his belt, the midfielder has grown in confidence. He recently impressed against Leicester City in the FA Cup by grabbing one assist.

James Garner’s future at United

James Garner has featured in only 8 games for Manchester United. He was loaned out for regular game time. Playing day in day out has seen him grow in confidence and he now looks ready to force his way into Manchester United’s squad as a regular.

The futures of Van de Beek, Matic, and Pogba are all certain. United have also lacked a defensive midfielder like him for the past few seasons. He is a conventional defensive midfielder who dives into tackles and sits back to act as a sweeper. United have been missing a player of his profile and will want to keep him come summer.

United briefly deliberated on recalling him from loan to cover for the departure of Van de Beek in January. However, they decided against it as they wanted him to play regularly.

Garner has not played for United since December 2019. His contract was recently extended until 2024 as United sees him as a future starter. Sir Matt Busby once said, ” If you are good enough, you are old enough”. Garner will want to prove the legend right and cement his place as a starter next season. Follow us on Twitter.
