Is Mikel Arteta the reason Edu Gasper left?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is said to one of the reasons behind the sudden departure of Edu Gasper. Edu was the first ever sporting director at Arsenal and his departure has raised plenty of questions in the past two months.

Edu Gasper became the first ever Sporting Director at Arsenal. He was doing very well and was one of the reasons behind Arsenal getting back on successful tracks. He was equally praised as that of Mikel Arteta for the club’s success.

However, in November the news came out that Edu will leave Gunners with immediate effect. This came as a shock for everyone at the North London club. Even the head coach Arteta was shocked with the sudden news of departure.

Edu joined the multi-club organisation owned by Evangelos Marinakis. One of the clubs owned by them is Premier League club Nottingham Forest. He will be head of player recruitment and earn around £5 million per year which is double tham he earned at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta the reason behind Edu Gasper’s departure?

Edu has received a much bigger job than sporting director of Arsenal. It can be seen by his new role and salary. However, one well know journalist thinks that Arteta can be one of the reasons behind the Brazilian’s departure.

The name of the journalist is Duncan Castles who runs the Transfers podcast. Firstly, he said that Arteta started this season in very strong position and what followed after that may have resulted in Edu moving away from Gunners.

“Mikel Arteta went into this season in his strongest position of power ever at Arsenal, having been handed a new three year contract in September. The contract, I’m told, was one of the key reasons why Edu resigned as sporting director. He wasn’t happy with Arteta’s increasing authority at the club” – Duncan Castles speaking on his podcast.

Despite Castles making this bold statement, Arteta and Edu have always complimented each other. In addition, they are said to have a good relation with each other. Lastly, Gunners will now need to speed up the process to sign new sporting director.
