ISL 2020-21: East Bengal rope in Songpu Singsit and Semboi Haokip

East Bengal have signed Songpu Singsit and Semboi Haokip from Neroca FC and Bengaluru FC respectively. On the other hand, Sourav Das extends his stay at the Indian Super League giants.

All three players have been given a season-long deal with the Reds and Golds. The Bengal giants were concerned about their participation in the ISL for the next season but West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee helped them get through the difficulties.

East Bengal SC made a lot of domestic signings in the following weeks. Additionally, many players have joined the club on loan from their parent clubs for better playing time. However, the club is yet to announce its overseas players who will play in the league next season.

Sourav Das stays whereas Singsit and Haokip are the fresh faces for SC East Bengal

Sourav Das joined East Bengal from champions Mumbai City FC. However, the 25-year-old midfielder made just three starts last season. But, this season, he might be getting much more playing time as a result of the new-look squad.

Whereas, Haokip had earlier played for the Kolkata giants during the 2016-17 season on loan from Kerala Blasters. Then, he joined Bengaluru and after a four-year-long stay, he would be now playing for East Bengal. The 28-year-old forward had a good time with the Blues making 41 appearances with 10 goals and 2 assists.

Songpu Singsit is another exciting addition after signing from I-League side Neroca FC. The 22-year-old left winger had a superb professional experience with them scoring 3 goals and assisting 3 times in 14 appearances. Alongside Blasters loanee Subha Ghosh, he would be a real threat for the opponent defence.

Haokip is excited about his return to his former club and says,

“East Bengal will provide a fresh challenge, and that is something I am looking forward to. I have played for East Bengal before, so it’s great to be back. I know the pulse here and that always motivates a footballer.”

Whereas the emerging player Singsit is also keen on making an impact in the biggest competition in India.

“It is a big opportunity for me. It is one of the biggest clubs in India. I will look to prove myself every day and give my best. I will also learn so much from the coaching staff and senior players around.” said the player.
