Kerala Blasters FC looking forward to replacing Ishfaq Ahmad with Quique Flores. After a disastrous season by the Blasters and Kibu Vicuna getting sacked. The Blasters are looking for a permanent solution.
Kerala Blasters had their worst run in the Indian super league since the league has been introduced. Kerala finished 10th in an 11 team league. With only 3 victories, 8 draws, and 9 losses in 20 matches. Kerala struggled throughout the season and barely managed to put up any competition. Kerala’s sloppy defense made them concede the most number of goals in the League.
Even Kibu Vicuna got sacked due to the lack of performance. Now Kerala is on a roll to find a new manager. A manager who will bring them out of this messy situation and put them back on track. According to sources Kerala Blasters are interested in the former Watford manager Quique.
Quique Flores Career as a player
Born in Madrid Quique spent his first 10 years with Valencia CF. the club got relegated in 1984 but came back to the first division in 1987 and finished 14th. However, from them until now the club has never been below 7th position with him as first choice.
After that Flores moved to Real Madrid, spending two seasons there and winning one La Liga too. He also had a brief spell with Real Zaragoza. Quique finally retired at the age of 32. Flores have also made 15 appearances for the Spanish National Team, and was also selected to play in the 1990 World Cup.
Quique Flores Career as a Manager
Flores made his debut by managing the Real Madrid youth team in 2001. After managing Madrid for 3 seasons he went on to manage Getafe, in which Getafe finished 13th in the league. His career took a leap when Flores was given to manage his former club Valencia. He guided them to 3rd place and secured the Champions League spot. But in 2007 the board sacked Flores after a string of poor results.
Flores managed many teams after his departure from Valencia. Quique managed top teams like Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Getafe and Watford. But recently got sacked by the board of Watford because he managed to win a single match only.
It would be interesting see what Quique will bring to the team and the league as well as to the League. However the things are yet to heat up for both the parties.
