Striker Daniel Chima Chukwu joins SC East Bengal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Daniel Chima Chukwu is the newest face at Salt Lake Stadium with East Bengal. The Nigerian will be a part of the upcoming Indian Super League campaign. East Bengal recently appointed Manuel Diaz as their manager and Daniel will surely be in his plans. Brace yourselves for some spectacular fireworks.

At 30, Daniel comes with a lot of experience. He has played in top-flight Chinese, Norwegian and Polish clubs. His longest stint was at Molde with whom he spend 5 seasons from 2010 to 2015. During this time he played under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, the current manager of Manchester United. In 2013, he was their leading goal scorer of the campaign with 13 goals.

East Bengal faced some serious issues going forward last season. They scored a meagre 22 goals in 20 games. That is 4 less than Ferran Corominas’ golden boot winning tally in the 2017/18 campaign. Manager Robbie Fowler, the 7th highest goal scorer in the history of the Premier League, did not manage to get his player half as clinical as he was.

Daniel Chima Chukwu will be a monster

After playing over 262 games and managing 135 goal contributions, Daniel will look to prove a point at East Bengal. At Taizhou Yuanda FC, his previous club, he scored 3 goals in 13 appearances. He has not been bad at the playmaker side of his game either. At 5 feet 11 inches, Daniel can be a very physical player. He has played in the Europa League and Champions League qualifiers and thus carries a huge amount of experience with respect to Indian Football.

We might see a very different East Bengal next season. With the arrival of Manuel Diaz, expect a lot of possession-based play. The next 2-3 signings will determine the strength of East Bengal for the forthcoming season.
