Time for another reset? As Robbie Fowler fails to meet the expectations at East Bengal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The 45-years-old Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler was appointed as the coach of East Bengal SC who played their debut season in the Indian Super League. East Bengal’s season was disappointing throughout the tournament.

East Bengal managed to win only 3 games out of 20 Under Fowler which gives a bad reputation for the team which has been playing for the past 100 years now. And in their last match also East Bengal conceded 6 goals against the weakest team in the league Odisha FC.

Moving beyond Fowler’s on-Field performance to hi off-field antics, Fowler have failed to impress there also. He have been suspended twice and fines a huge amount also. There were constant complains of referees not being good enough and players not being good enough.

Robbie also did not take kindly to the criticism of the Former East Bengal players, which every East Bengal manager should get used to. As a conclusion it is safe to say the Robbie Fowler’s management skills fell short for a team like East Bengal.

Is Robbie Fowler the only one to be blamed For Poor East Bengal?

When Quess came in as investors the project lasted less than 2 years with Alejandro Menedez being sacked after a defeat against Mohun Bagan. After a months Shree cements replaced Quess as the investors. So the new Investors are also to be blamed for the condition of the club, as they brought in Robbie who has very limited knowledge of coaching. He has only managed Brisbane Roars which was also for only one season.

Perhaps it is quite reasonable to say that it were too early for Robbie Fowlers career to manage a club like East Bengal.

What next for East Bengal?

It is still in doubts that Shree cement will remain the Investors of East Bengal. If they do than project reset should began and it should start with the replacement of Robbie Fowler. As listed above only 3 wins in 20 matches is a very disappointing tally for a team like East Bengal.

To sum up this season, starting with the players to the coach everyone has let the fans down.
