Italian club Lazio interested in Dortmund star Julian Brandt

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt is catching attention from outside Germany. The new team interested in the German is the Italian club Lazio.

According to La Repubblica (via Lazio News 24), the Biancocelesti are keeping an eye on Julian Brandt. The move could depend on whether the Italians are able to sell Joaquin Correa this summer.

Brandt has not been able to cement his place in Dortmund and was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. But with no new development, Lazio might look like his next possible destination.

CORREA TO FUND LAZIO REBUILD

Lazio will be looking to rebuild their squad under the new manager Maurizio Sarri. They could not qualify for the Champions League this season and finished 6th in the table.

The team lacked goals in them as they only scored 61 times in Serie A. With their manager Simone Inzaghi being replaced by Sarri, the club will be looking to improve their attack. Sarri is known for his attacking and possession-heavy style of football and will need more technical players in his team.

The squad does lack in-depth when it comes to quality. Another issue for the team will be regarding their attacker Joaquin Correa, who is now linked with multiple Premier League clubs. Hence Lazio could sell the Argentine for a reported €40 million this summer to fund their rebuild.

BRANDT A GOOD FIT FOR LAZIO

Brandt could be an excellent signing for Lazio as he can provide them with the creative spark. The German can play in multiple positions. He can play as an attacking midfielder or move to the left wing and can even play in the number 10 role. He is an excellent creator and is a good dribbler of the ball.

The 25-year-old has a contract with Dortmund till 2024 but could be available for a fee of €20 million. He has played 229 times in Bundesliga where he scored 40 times and assisted for 50 goals. While Lazio are not ready to meet the current evaluation, they could do make the transfer possible if they can sell Correa.

However, Arsenal could yet play a part in the transfer. The Gunners were on the verge of signing Brandt in January but decided to bring in Martin Odegaard instead. They could yet rekindle their interest in the German. Also new Dortmund boss Marco Rose has said that he wanted Brandt to be part of his team. Thus Lazio will have to act if they are to secure the service of the German next season.
