Chelsea‘s interest in Ivan Toney may bring a premature end to a certain Chelsea star signing’s time at the Stamford Bridge.
Since the Blue Co has taken over of Chelsea in 2021 it has been filled with a lot of uncertainty regarding their transfer activities. They have signed over 40 players in the last three years. And they were changing managers like changing clothes. What happens when a manager changes his preferences changes, his style of play changes.
Chelsea again had a very lavish spending transfer window where they have already went on and signed 11 players. With the deadline day approaching, the Blues are in the market for a striker. Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are the top target as reveiled by the recent reports. With either of them signing it mark spark an end towards the career of a certain star signing named Christopher Nkunku.
NKUNKU TIME AT CHELSEA
Christopher Nkunku signed for chelsea last summer for a fee of 52 million pounds from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The french super star arrived with great expectations and was heiled by the Chelsea management as a ‘standout talent’. Recent rumours say that his time at Chelsea may be coming to an end after a single injury hit season in England. He made only 14 appearences in his debut season after a knee injury sidelined him for a significant amount of time.
Like Barcelona struggling ot find a replacement to Lionel Messi, Chelsea were also in their hunt to find a perfect replacement for a certain Eden Hazard. The Belgian was a generational talent and was the backbone of every Chelsea sucess but When Real Madrid came calling in 2019 he couldn’t say no. Since Hazard left the Blues were in their personal hunt to find a replacement. It began with Christian Pulisic which failed. Then came in Christopher Nkunku who was destined for glory at Chelsea but his knee injury might have hampered his progression. Later the same window Cole Palmer happened. The englishman took on the stage in Nkunku’s absence and hit the ground running.
NOT THE MARESCA TYPE?
Now Pochettino is gone and Enzo Maresca took charge. He has a very different playing style. The reason Raheem Sterling was kicked out was that he was not the type of winger he wanted. A Maresca system wants a winger to be wide enough. Not cuts backs no further dribbling the winger should be able to cross the balls. Sterling’s style of play include going forward cutting back dribbling inside. and iof you critically inspect Christopher Nkunku there is a small similarity between both players. Nkunku likes to hold the ball cut back have a strike at the target. He is preferbaly a goal scoring winger.
Look at the new winger signing for Chelsea, Pedro Neto. The Portuguese in his time at Wolves was preferably known for his crossing ability. He runs close to the touchlines ventures forward and sends in crosses. Even though it was the frenchman who scored the first goal in the Enzo Maresca era. He did not feature much in their outstanding victory at Wolves. The only thing that is holding Nkunku back at Chelsea is his speed. According to Express daily, it would be days over at Chelsea for Nkunku as Chelsea’s pursuit for a striker goes on.
IVAN TONEY
This was current Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill speaking about the toughest oponet he faced during his time at Brighton. His ban and injuries have affected his goal tally last season. But Chelsea could have a real Premier League experience if they chose to sign Toney.
We still dont’t know if Ivan Toney would be a Chelsea striker when the transfer window closes on Friday. The Blues are in talks with their top two targets namely Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney. Even though Osimhan is their top target Chelsea have Ivan Toney also as a back up option. They also have Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli as a competitor for both of their targets. The fact that puts Chelsea in the dirving seat for both transfers is that they are in Europe. Both Toney and Osimhen want to continue in Europe. Toney wants to stay in England in order boost up his oppertunities with the England national team. Nobody can compete with the lucrative wage offers from Saudi Pro League clubs.
