Chelsea defeated Newcastle United yesterday by 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Nicolas Jackson who scored the first goal has now equalled Fernando Torres in scoring goals for Chelsea.
The Blues earned all three points with a very narrow margin. They were able to score twice which is a very good sign, but once again there defence was unable to register a clean sheet. Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer both scored the goals. On the other hand, Pedro Neto and Romeo Lavia registered an assist each.
Nicolas Jackson has once again found the back of the net. It takes him to get 14 direct goal involvements in last 14 Premier League matches. This season the 23 year old striker has been in a superb form.
Jackson could have registered an assist in the fourth minute itself. But the finish from Palmer was ruled out by VAR. Just, 14 minutes later he was able to find the back of the net himself. Pedro Neto claimed the assist but Palmer received all the praise due to his amazing vision and pass to find Neto.
Jackson equals Torres in goal scoring for Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson just scored his 20th Premier League goal for Chelsea. This makes him the 30th player to reach the mark and as noted by Squawka, he has now equalled the record of Fernando Torres.
Torres joined Chelsea in 2011, in what was then a British record signing. The Blues paid £50 million for Torres who had already proven his worth in England. Torres was one of the best players in the world while playing for Liverpool.
Torres reached the 20 Premier League goal mark for Chelsea in 110 games. Although he was not as good as he used to be at Liverpool, he helped Chelsea very much in winning their first ever Champions League title.
Now Jackson has equalled Torres’ record of scoring 20 Premier League goals. What makes it more special is that he took only 44 games to reach this mark. Jackson will now look to have the best goalscoring season of his career which is last with 17 goals across all competitions.
