Chelsea had to face defeat against Liverpool despite dominating the whole game. The hosts scored two times despite having less total shots. In contrast, The Blues only scores once and hence dropped all three points. Now Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said that Chelsea must move on from Robert Sanchez and made some bold statements about the keeper.
Robert Sanchez did made 3 saves but they were not enough to hold back the Premier League toppers. Carragher feels like Sanchez could have done a lot better. If we consider the form of Sanchez, it feels like Carragher is not completely wrong. Sanchez has failed to keep clean sheet in 6 out of 8 matches he has played this season. In addition, he has conceded 10 goals.
Carragher tells Chelsea to move on from Robert Sanchez
While talking to Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher said that Chelsea had more control of the game but Sanchez let the club down. He went to make another bold statement that Chelsea need a new goalkeeper if they want to succeed even further.
“What I don’t like is that when he goes down he turns his face. It’s almost like he is scared of getting hit by the ball” – Carragher about Sanchez.
The Liverpool legend then gave example of Man United legend Peter Schmeichel. He said that Schmeichel used to make himself as big as possible to save the goal. Carragher then said that Sanchez should make Curtis Jones scared of him.
“He comes out to Curtis Jones and Curtis Jones should be absolutely terrified that a keeper is coming towards him, he’s 6 feet 4 inch, he’s coming on top of him. But he is scared of the ball and Curtis Jones and he’s turning his head away” – Carragher making bold statements.
Lastly, Carragher said that Sanchez should should go all out and use his face if required to keep the ball out. He added that Chelsea have spent highly but they still need improvement. By improvement he meant a new goalkeeper.
Despite Carragher’s comments, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has faith in Robert Sanchez. He is happy with the goalkeeper and assured that Sanchez will be his first choice keeper for the rest of the season.
