Joan Laporta slammed La Liga president Javier Tebas

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has denounced La Liga president Javier Tebas after his statement regarding the Catalan giants’ current financial situation.

Speaking on Spanish outlet Marca, The La Liga president has revealed that the Blaugrana are currently unable to make any incoming transfers due to the league’s FFP rules. And he also stated that Barcelona needs to sell players before signing Robert Lewandowski. He said:

“They(Barcelona) know what he has to do. They know our economic control rules and their financial situation perfectly. The rules are to avoid major economic problems in the entities. I don’t know if they will sell De Jong, Pedri or Pepito Pérez.

They know what they have to do, sell assets and enter more, that’s what they have to do. Barça have had many accumulated losses in recent years, some that could have been avoided, and they have to fill the pantry. Just like Madrid have filled it, Barça have it empty. Today they cannot sign him(Lewandowski).”

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was furious at Tebas after he exposed the Catalan giants in front of the world. And Laporta also stated that La Liga is trying to harm their club. He said on the club’s media(via Barca Universal):

“I ask you to refrain from making comments about the possible signings of Barça. If Tebas is doing this on purpose, it is not acceptable to us, and if it is unintentional, he is very talkative and likes to stand out. From Tebas’ statements, it seems he has a clear desire to hurt Barça’s interests,”

Is Joan Laporta right to slam Tebas?

It is a delicate situation in Barcelona at the moment. They are struggling with their financial situation. And they have decided not to agree to the CVC proposal. So, they will only have the possibility of selling players to overcome this situation.

Meanwhile, after the La Liga president has revealed Barca’s situation publicly, the clubs who will approach the Catalan giants to sign their players will try to take advantage of this situation. And the Catalan giants will struggle to make the most out of their players’ sales.

So, it wasn’t a wise choice from Javier Tebas to reveal Barcelona’s situation. And it is acceptable why Joan Laporta reacted like that after what the La Liga president has done.
