Jordi Alva might leave Barcelona as he was owed €38 million by the club

Jordi Alba

In the past few seasons, Barcelona has faced financial difficulties. They consequently lowered the salaries of numerous players, including high earners. These include Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, and Jordi Alba among others.

Following his retirement, Pique opted to forfeit the money he was owed. However, it appears improbable that other players will follow suit, which is understandable.

As per a SPORT report, Barcelona is to pay €38 million to Jordi Alba during the next season. This includes his regular salary and the deferred amount from during and after the pandemic.

Consequently, Barcelona is reportedly pressuring Jordi Alba to leave the club. However, Alba has no intention of leaving Barcelona at the moment. Since he wishes to honor his contract, which terminates next summer.

Alba intends to stay at Barcelona

Barcelona had attempted to cash out Alba out in the summer of 2022 when Inter Milan made an offer. But the Spaniard rejected the offer, even though he was aware that his starting position is not a guarantee. Since, Alejandro Balde is now the favorite option.

Even though not being a regular starter for Barcelona this season, Alba has emerged as a leader. He provides dedicated guidance to Balde and other younger players during training. Alba said:

“I know what I am as a player, what I have given, and what I can give. I feel strong, when you feel good mentally and physically, everything is easier. I’m a better player now than I was ten years ago.”

Xavi, too, is reportedly pleased with how Alba has adjusted to his new leadership role. The Spaniard will turn 34 years old next week, and as he ages, his abilities may decline.

Nevertheless, he remains one of Barcelona’s most prolific creators, having generated nine significant scoring opportunities in the league and producing an average of 1.7 key passes per game.
