18 year old Josh Achaempong might get a chance after Chelsea hit by injury crisis in the right back position.
Like the last year Chelsea have encountered an injury crisis right at the beginning of the season. Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t able to use all of his squad last year because of injury. But Enzo Maresca this year has a lot of options available within the squad. Chelsea have one of the biggest squads in the world now. Maresca should start giving chances to his young players to overcome this crisis.
RIGHT BACK CRISIS
Chelsea are currently playing a 4-2-3-1 formation under Enzo Maresca. In that system of play full backs play a major role up and down the field. Maresca is someone who plays with players that can play wide and send in crosses from wither sides. Currently the new Blues manager is encountering a slight hick up in the right full back position. Captain Reece James who is obviously the first option is injured and according to The Standard, he is only expected to be back by the end of this month. This Frenchman Malo Gusto started all the first three Premier League matches. In the Conference League, Chelsea have tried playing with a different formation with three at the back. But in both of their matches in Europe they struggled against Swiss league side Servette. Eventhought it was a make shift back line and they were not even the first choice players. Still playing such a formation in the Premier League might hurt Chelsea.
In their recent encounter with Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Malo Gusto the current tenant of the right back position got injured and left the field. Maresca substituted him with Mykhailo Mudryk and attempted the other formation but it didn’t go well as Chelsea succumbed to a 1-1 draw at home. With Gusto out for some time Chelsea are in need for a replacement. Josh Achaempong is one of the players who impressed towards the back end of last season under Mauricio Pochettino. It might be time to try out the 18 year old in that position atleast untill Reece James is back from the injury.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR CHELSEA?
Chelsea have started the season in a less impressive manner accumulating only 4 points from the first three matches. They sit 11th on the table with a loss, draw and a win. The International Break has open sort of come up in a really crucial time. So that Maresca and co can just recoup and start again in an attempt to turn their season around. It’s too early as Maresca is on his course to find out a fruitful combination among his attackers. Anyway Chelsea face Bournemouth in the Premier League at the Vitality stadium on 14th of September. Enzo Maresca and his beloved Blues try to take maximum points from the Cherrys.
