Manchester United are on the verge to complete their first signing of the season. The club has been very busy in the transfer market. However, no new player has joined the club yet. A lot of changes in United board and coaches has taken place as Sir Jim Ratcliffe doesn’t want to repeat the 2023/24 season. United board welcomed Dan Ashworth, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox. Erik Ten Hag has signed contract extension. He is expecting to be joined by three new coaches who are all Dutch. In addition, two young Dutch players are also set to arrive at Old Trafford. Joshua Zirkzee who is one of those two, has now agreed personal terms with Red Devils.
Manchester United finished on 8th position in the Premier League last season. It was the lowest finish in 34 years. Manager Erik Ten Hag was criticised and his job was in danger too. However the Dutchman guided United to FA Cup victory against Manchester City which earned him a contract extension. However, United board are not satisfied and are planning to make crucial changes. The club has decided to sign a new defender, midfielder, right winger and a striker.
Rasmus Hojlund arrived from Atlanta last year. The Danish striker was club’s highest goalscorer in 2023/24 season. However he was unable to receive support from his counterparts. Anthony Martial who has been with United for 9 years is on his way out as his contract expired. Marcus Rashford who is other option can play as striker but is not as effective as he is on the left flank. Hence, United have made it their top priority to sign a striker.
Fabrizio Romano said Joshua Zirkzee to join Red Devils very soon
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport that Joshua Zirkzee to Manchester United is really imminent. The Italian journalist said that the agreement between Zirkzee and United is done. The duration of contract, player’s salary and agent’s comission has been discussed. The only thing left to discuss is the transfer fee which United need to pay Bologna.
Zirkzee has a €40 million release clause in his current Bologna contract. Red Devils has two options to choose from before making a payment. First is that they pay whole payment by triggering the release clause while the other is pay in installments which will cost them around €3 million more than the original price.
The addition of Zirkzee will prove very important to Red Devils side. The 23 year old striker scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists for Bologna across all competitions in the 2023/24 season. He helped Bologna to achieve the Champions League group stage for the first time in history. Zirkzee is totally different as compared to Hojlund. The Dutchman is capable to dribbling along with helping the club in defence.
David Ornstein about Zirkzee’s move
David Ornstein while talking about Zirkzee’s move said that deal is progressing with speed because of the agreement on personal terms between the player and United. Ornstein said that United are working to finalise a deal. In addition, he revealed that agreement about personal terms and agent’s commision has already been discussed which has been the big talking point behind the deal.
“Its going to be sizable, but that’s perhaps understandable, given the fact that the player’s camp have managed to negotiate a release clause in his contract that makes him available for a fee that is probably lower than his market value” – David Ornstein about Zirkzee’s move to Red Devils.
To conclude, Ornstein thinks that Manchester United will feel that its a decent value for money when they will look at the package as a whole.
Netherlands had to face a defeat against England in semi-final of Euro 2024. Now that they are out of tournament, arrival of both Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee is expected to speed up.
