Jota advised not to fly by doctors following surgery before tragic death.
Doctors Warned Jota Not to Travel by Air
Fresh and deeply saddening details have come to light about the tragic passing of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota. The former Reds star lost his life in a car crash in Spain at just 28 years old.
Reports now reveal that Jota had recently undergone a minor lung procedure and was specifically advised by his medical team not to board a flight. Hoping to honour that advice, he intended to go back to Merseyside by ferry instead.
The striker’s journey began in Porto. He was always planned to reach the northern Spanish port of Santander, before getting a ferry back to the UK.
The surgery that prevented him from traveling by plane was reportedly part of a foul last October against Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo.
Tributes Pour In for a Player and Friend Loved by All
Jota’s death has left Liverpool Football Club and the wider football world in shock. He joined from Wolves in 2020, he made 182 appearances scoring 65 goals in red. He played his role in Arne Slot’s title-winning squad.
But it was more than those stats, to those who knew him, he was a man full of heart. Former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “a fantastic player, but also a good friend, loving husband and father.” Midfield duo Alexis Mac Allister and Domink Szoboszlai expressed their grief, Both highlighted the struggle felt across a locker room yet to process its loss.
As the club prepares for their new season, the mood is heavy. The loss of Jota in not merely a sporting loss at Liverpool, it is personal. The loss for his family, teammates and fans will long be felt. Two brothers are gone, and their memory will never disappear.
