Juventus has struggled to find their former self ever since the departure of Massimiliano Allegri in 2019. Although the Italian tactician has returned to the club in 2021 to replace Andrea Pirlo, he is still dealing with the problems of 2019-2021. In his first season back in charge of the club, Allegri led the Bianconeri to a 4th place finish in Serie A.
The 4th place finish might seem like underachievement due to the lofty standards of Juventus but is commendable considering the bloated squad at the Manager’s disposal. The old lady made some terrible moves in the transfer market from 2019 to 2021. The signing of players like Weston McKennie, Adrien Rabiot, Arthur Melo, Dejan Kulusevski and Luca Pellegrini on considerably high wages has hurt the club.
The players have not performed up to the standards and have failed to make an impact. 4 out of the aforementioned 5 players have been either sold or loaned out by the club after Massimiliano Allegri’s return. Juventus has made some smart transfers in the last couple of windows to bolster their sqaud. However, the Bianconeri need a few more signings to ensure that they are able to challenge for the title again.
Juventus need to sign Davide Frattesi and invest in full backs
The club has struggled to replace the influence of Miralem Pjanic in the midfield ever since his departure. Juventus signed Arthur in an exchange deal involving the Bosnian in the hope of getting a younger midfielder. However, the Brazilian has hardly made any impact at the club.
Paul Pogba was signed earlier this season to bolster that midfield, however, the Frenchman has struggled with injuries. Astonishingly, he is yet to make an appearance this season. He has been out injured since July and is gradually returning to fitness. Amidst all this, Juventus is interested in signing Davide Frattesi of Sassuolo.
Davide Frattesi has been in fine form this season and can be an excellent signing for the Bianconeri. However, the old lady will have to offload Weston McKennie permanently to raise funds. Leeds United have the player on loan and can make the move permanent in the summer. However, Juventus need to also invest in younger full backs if the club is to become serious challengers.
Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado are at the tail end of their careers. Meanwhile, Danilo is mostly used as a centre back by the Italian Manager. Thus, the club needs to reinforce on the flanks at the back. Alex Grimaldo from Benfica can be a good option for the club if they move swiftly. While on the other flank, Jonathan Clauss of Marseille is a very good option considering his qualities going forward.
